Term utilized to describe (relatively) long & narrow electrical conductors whose dimensions are measured in nanometers (nm). For example, during 2003, Susan L. Lindquist utilized yeast prions (which self-assemble into 60-300 nanometer-long fibers) to create nanowires by subsequently coating those fibers with gold or silver.
