About The Author
Chaotropic Agent
From the Greek, meaning "disorder maker", it is a substance which yields ions (in water solution) that can increase unfolding/denaturation of protein molecules in solution, dissolve biological membranes/proteins, and/or denature nucleic acids. One example of a chaotropic agent is guanidium isothiocyanate.
